Neon (Chicago, IL)
Before going back to San Diego for Christmas I decided to spend the weekend in The Windy City with my cousins, Lauren and Regan. This was my first time in Chicago, and the city looked almost artificially beautiful with its street trees wrapped in Christmas lights as the lake water cast a freezing winter blue against the nearby buildings.
At the risk of looking like a walking Pepto-Bismal ad or one of Santa’s Christmas elves, for our last night out in Chicago I paired a bright pink long-sleeve dress with red tights and white nursing sneakers. I absolutely love this silk/rayon blend dress I got (on sale) from The Front Row Shop. The waist ties are actually another set of sleeves. The cross-wrap front and self-tie bow are so flattering, especially for ladies who are smaller on the top like me.
Last week I finally got to take my cast off (I broke my left foot about six weeks ago), and so I decided to go to Nordstrom Rack to find some supportive and vaguely stylish sneakers. I wasn’t expecting much since I seldom wear flats of any kind, much less tennis shoes. When I found these chunky K-Swiss shoes on clearance for $26 I thought I’d take a chance on the memory foam white and pink kicks.
The three of us certainly treated ourselves this weekend: eating out, swimming in the pool at Lauren’s apartment complex, taking walks around Lake Michigan, and shopping. On the Amtrak from Ann Arbor to Chicago Regan and I, having just finished our fall semester exams the day before, vowed to indulge. I’m trying to gradually re-introduce exercise into my routine after just having gotten my foot cast off, so hopefully I won’t put on as many holiday pounds as I usually do. :-) Some of our favorite restaurants in the city were Hub 51, True Foods Kitchen (where the pizza below was from), and Siam Noodle and Rice.
